ABSTRACT

Com o objetivo de verificar os efeitos da enxertia na produção e qualidade de tomateiros cultivados em ambiente protegido, conduziu-se um experimento em Viçosa, Minas Gerais (MG). Seis tratamentos foram avaliados no delineamento em blocos casualizados, com três repetições, resultantes da combinação de duas cultivares de tomate 'Débora' e 'Sta. Clara', enxertadas sobre os porta-enxertos 'Anchor T' e 'BGH 3472', além das duas cultivares de pés francos. A enxertia foi realizada por encostia. Os tratamentos enxertados com 'BGH 3472' e os pés francos Débora e Sta. Clara apresentaram as maiores produtividades comerciais. Não houve variação no teor de SST dos frutos, e o pH da polpa dos frutos foi menor nas combinações 'Anchor T'/Sta. Clara e 'BGH 3472'/Débora. Observou-se maior ATT nos frutos de Débora e menor nos frutos de Sta. Clara. A relação SST/ATT foi maior nos frutos da combinação 'Anchor T'/Sta. Clara, comparados aos frutos das combinações 'BGH 3472'/Débora e 'Anchor T'/Débora.


In order to check the effects of grafting in the production and quality of tomato grown in unheated greenhouse, an experiment was conducted in Viçosa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Six treatments were evaluated in randomized block design with three replications, resulting from the combination of two tomato cultivars Débora and Sta. Clara, grafted on two rootstocks 'Anchor T' and 'BGH 3472' in addition of the two ungrafted cultivars. The grafting method utilized was used. The treatments with the rootstock 'BGH 3472' and the cultivars 'Débora' and 'Sta. Clara' presented greatest commercial yields. There was no change in the content of SST. Fruit pH was smaller at the combinations 'Anchor T'/Sta.Clara and 'BGH 3472'/Débora Clara. It was observed greater ATT in the pulp of the fruits of Débora and smaller in the fruits of Sta. Clara. SST/ATT ratio was greater in fruits of the combination 'Anchor T'/Sta.Clara when compared with the fruits of the combinations between BGH 3472/Débora and BGH and 'Anchor T'/Débora.

ABSTRACT

Este experimento foi realizado na Universidade Federal de Viçosa e teve como objetivo avaliar a composição mineral dos frutos de quatro cultivares de quiabo. O delineamento utilizado foi em blocos casualizados, sendo os tratamentos constituídos pelas cultivares Amarelinho, Red Velvet, Star of David e Mammoth Spinless, com cinco blocos. Os maiores teores de cálcio, fósforo, enxofre e magnésio foram encontrado na Cultivar Red Velvet. Os maiores teores de nitrogênio total, amônio e manganês e menor teor de fósforo foram encontrados na cultivar Mammoth Spinless, enquanto nas cultivares Red Velvet e Star of David foram observados os menores teores de nitrogênio total, amônio e manganês. Menores teores de cálcio, enxofre e magnésio foram verificados em conjunto nas cultivares Amarelinho, Star of David e Mammoth Spinless.


This experiment was carried out at Universidade Federal de Viçosa and had the objective to evaluate the mineral composition of four cultivars of okra fruits. The experimental design was in randomized blocks, where the treatments were composed by the cultivars Amarelinho, Red Velvet, Star of David and Mammoth Spinless, with five blocks. The cultivar Red Velvet had the highest content of calcium, phosphorus, sulfur and magnesium. The cultivar Mammoth Spinless had the highest content of total nitrogen, ammonium and manganese and the lowest content of phosphorus. The cultivars Red Velvet and Star of David had the lowest contents of total nitrogen, ammonium, and manganese. Lower contents of calcium, sulfur and magnesium were present in the cultivars Amarelinho, Star of David and Mammoth Spinless.

ABSTRACT

In Brazil, no commercial tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L. formerly Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) varieties are available which are resistant to the late blight, one of the most important tomato diseases, produced by the phytopathogenic oomycete Phytophthora infestans. The wild tomato (Solanum habrochaites Knapp & Spooner, formerly Lycopersicon hirsutum Dunal) shows resistance to P. infestans, because of which we investigated an interspecific cross between S. lycopersicum cv. Santa Clara and S. habrochaites accession BGH 6902 maintained at the Horticultural Germplasm Bank at the Federal University of Viçosa (Banco de Germoplasma de Horticultura (BGH), Universidade Federal de Viçosa (UFV), Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil) The genitors, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 were used to study the inheritance of resistance to P. infestans and to estimate the genetic parameters associated with resistance. Analysis of the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) indicated that inheritance is polygenic and that dominance controls character, whereas mean analysis showed that the additive effect was the most important. Although the character presents variability, the heritability is low which generates the need to better control the environment to obtain success with the selection.

ABSTRACT

This study presents the minimum number and the best combination of tomato harvests needed to compare tomato accessions from germplasm banks. Number and weight of fruit in tomato plants are important as auxiliary traits in the evaluation of germplasm banks and should be studied simultaneously with other desirable characteristics such as pest and disease resistance, improved flavor and early production. Brazilian tomato breeding programs should consider not only the number of fruit but also fruit size because Brazilian consumers value fruit that are homogeneous, large and heavy. Our experiment was a randomized block design with three replicates of 32 tomato accessions from the Vegetable Germplasm Bank (Banco de Germoplasma de Hortaliças) at the Federal University of Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil plus two control cultivars (Debora Plus and Santa Clara). Nine harvests were evaluated for four production-related traits. The results indicate that six successive harvests are sufficient to compare tomato genotypes and germplasm bank accessions. Evaluation of genotypes according to the number of fruit requires analysis from the second to the seventh harvest. Evaluation of fruit weight by genotype requires analysis from the fourth to the ninth harvest. Evaluation of both number and weight of fruit require analysis from the second to the ninth harvest.
